As a person who lives for the written word and who needs a lot of quiet time in which to carry out my work, I typically prefer communicating via email than through virtual meetings and phone calls. Writers wishing to discuss plans for a new project with me outside of email correspondence will receive a free half-hour telephone call before we begin work on the project. However, I charge US$ 50 per hour for all other phone calls or phone meetings, with the exception of situations where a client has accessibility needs, in which case I will happily communicate via phone free of charge. I require that phone calls be scheduled in advance. To mitigate the effects of virtual meeting fatigue on myself and others, I charge US$ 75 per hour for virtual meetings, and I limit virtual meetings to a maximum of 30 minutes in length. Disregard for these communication policies may be grounds for terminating a contract for services. On weekdays I typically respond to emails within 12 hours, and will do my best to set up an automated out-of-office reply if there are days when this is not possible.
