For Instructors & Advisors of Student Authors

To hire me to write dissertation or thesis formatting handbooks, see my academic writing services page. Feel free to contact me about negotiating special discount rates for ongoing partnerships.

A work of student writing is meant to test a student’s academic research and writing abilities. Standards of academic integrity require that the work be the student’s own, and this leads to an expectation that students will carry out their research and writing alone. However, for any number of reasons, many students enrolled in high school, undergraduate, or graduate programs do not have adequate training in how to compose, structure, and present rigorous academic writing, and may experience difficulties or feelings of impostor syndrome when attempting to meet a professor’s expectations. While most campuses have writing centers or writing tutors that provide free services for students, these are typically staffed by fellow students and can be limited in the level and quality of academic writing support they can provide student writers.

Allowing students to work with a professional academic editor who will give them valuable feedback and guidance without doing the writing and research work for them can help students cultivate stronger academic writing skills. Students will learn how to develop and present a strong research narrative with correct citation style compliance and formatting. These services are especially appropriate for students who have strong ambitions for future academic and research careers.

I have worked with student authors since 2004, first as an English-as-a-Second-Language writing tutor for community college students, and more recently as a contract dissertation coach and editor for hundreds of graduate students at several universities in the United States and United Kingdom. I have written dissertation handbooks and formatting guides for university students in both humanities and STEM programs. Because I have also worked as an adjunct faculty member, I have a clear understanding of typical campus academic integrity policies. I am also aware of the ethical and legal standards established by the American Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and can be trusted to handle and protect student materials in the spirit of this statute. I bill at discounted rates for students to ensure that my services are not exploitative and are more equitable for students of varying income levels to access. For advisors of graduate students, I will also provide discount rates for ongoing partnerships to support all of your students in academic writing.

Instructors who are willing to allow a student to work with me will need to be prepared to participate in a brief group email exchange with me and the student to establish the appropriate scope and approach for my work under the relevant college or university academic integrity policies and grading instructor requirements. I do not charge students for the time I spend emailing with their instructors to establish the scope and ground rules for services.
