In addition to editing, writing, and research, I enjoy working on other types of interesting multidisciplinary projects. I charge US $40/hour for all but translation and web design services (see details below and my payment policies).
Example Miscellaneous Services
- Educational curricula and workshop materials: I have many years of experience developing educational worksheets, online content, quizzes, labs, lecture presentations, and other materials for students of all ages. I have developed such materials in just about every area of study for private tutoring lessons, university preparation, English as a second language, college courses, online courses, and just-for-fun workshops.
- Business marketing and employee training materials: I have developed flyers, handouts, signage, employee handbooks, and various training materials for many different businesses and organizations I have worked or interned for, from the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington to Green Valley Gardens Nursery and Arboretum. I have a strong aptitude for helping businesses and organizations use these kinds of materials to improve communication, knowledge transmission, and connections with both clients and employees.
- Botanical garden, arboretum, and herbarium materials: I am perhaps eccentric in finding it quite enjoyable to research the current Latin, common, and/or cultivar names and taxonomy of plants from around the world. I have experience with arboretum living collections curation and herbarium work.
- Local and oral history projects: I am fascinated by the history and culture of local regions, clubs, and specialized groups. I love working on projects that give me a chance to synthesize original documents, photos, interviews, and other primary sources into some sort of narrative or presentation to group members or the public.
- Website creation and maintenance (with caveats): I have been hired in the past to create WordPress template websites for clients. However, I am not a professional web designer. I do have some basic ability with HTML coding. This Ogma Editing website was created entirely by me, so let it serve as the example of what level of sophistication I am capable of achieving with web design. Because I am not a professional web designer, I will work out a reasonable amateur rate for WordPress web design services with those who are willing to let me do practice web design work for their businesses or personal websites.
- Translation services (with caveats): I am not a professional translator, but I have a strong aptitude for reading foreign languages and translation. I am confident that I can translate documents from the languages I have studied—Spanish, Norwegian, Korean, Chinese, and Russian, as well as any closely related languages—into English if the original author is not on an urgent timeline and is able to email with me to help clarify any wording that may be especially challenging. Because I am not a professional translator, I will work out a reasonable amateur rate for translation services with those who are willing to let me do practice translation work on their documents. I am not able to translate from English into a foreign language with sufficiently eloquent grammar.
- Alt text and document formatting for accessibility: I have experience with formatting documents and digital images to be readable to screen reader software for the blind.
- Court and police records retrieval: I’m no private investigator, but because of my criminal justice work for the ACLU of Washington, Innocence International, Prison Voice Washington, Washington Corrections Watch, and the Washington Department of Corrections Statewide Family Council, I have developed the ability to track down and retrieve all kinds of court, police, and government agency records.
