Payment Policy & Contracts

In addition to reviewing these payment policies, I request that all potential clients review my terms and conditions of service before services begin. My service rates can be compared to the average industry standard by reviewing the Editorial Freelancers Association average industry fees chart. I am willing to negotiate fees and terms for certain grant-funded university research projects, and where I can, I make my services accessible for those with limited financial means. I am happy to divide work on projects into smaller parts with an installment payment plan to make fees more manageable for clients, or to give clients a chance to test my skills before committing to a contract with a larger scope. Indeed, I prefer working in installments, since it gives both me and the client the opportunity to recalibrate our goals at regular intervals.

For projects or installments with estimated fees under US$ 100, I require full payment before services begin. For projects with estimated fees over US$ 100 I require clients to enter into a contract with me and pay a 50% deposit before services begin.

A contract typically clarifies the following:

  • Project scope and estimated timelines
  • Quantity of parts or installments (for large projects)
  • Confidentiality protection
  • Payment requirements

Before payment or a deposit is made for editing services, I will want to preview the document or a few sample pages of the document for a preliminary assessment. This is in part to ensure the document is ready for services to begin before the client goes through the trouble of submitting payment. My standards concerning confidentiality and intellectual property protection apply both before and after payment is submitted.

If documents are resubmitted for further editing services after revisions are made, this additional work will be billed separately at US$ 40 per hour.
